Portfolio My 1982 Sierra Ghia – a trusted friend!

Our 1982 Sierra Ghia 2.0 litre petrol 4-speed manual was a ‘launch model’ replacing the Cortina.

It was delivered from Grose of Ipswich in Nov.1982 as my company car. I’ve included an image of the Cortina (EBN 170W which it replaced.)

I bought it 3 years later from the company at 40,000 miles for £3,100 and immediately steam cleaned and waxoiled it.

40 years later it has become a historic vehicle taxation class and has never been restored or altered apart from fitting rear seat belts and Cortina Rostyle wheels. I have the original steel wheels and covers, and tool kit/manual etc.

I bought it because it was the 1st car our youngest daughter Laura ever travelled in, from the maternity hospital to home as a newborn.
We presented Laura with it on her 21st birthday.

As it was the 1st Sierra in our home town of Poynton, it attracted a lot of interest, as it replaced the more conventional, Cortinas and Cavaliers as the typical company transport. It gained the ‘Jelly Mould’ comment, and people either loved or loathed it.

It has now done 66,000 miles, and has never broken down or failed an MOT – a trusted friend!
